Wondering how Cardboard manages to keep your receipt collection hassle-free? Let's dive into the process and see how everything works seamlessly in the background.

Receipt collection methods

  1. Email capture: Cardboard automatically captures receipts sent to both the general email (e.g., acme@cardboard.email) and subscription-specific email addresses (e.g., acme+1password@cardboard.email). You can find your organization's specific email on the settings page on Cardboard's website.
Navigate to Settings > General to find the receipt collection email.

  2. Supplier emails: Whether the receipts are sent directly from your suppliers or forwarded from an existing collection system, Cardboard has got it covered.

Instead of having the receipts delivered directly to your accounting system, send them to Cardboard to collect everything and then import them into your accounting system once a month.

  3. Receipt link follow-up: Cardboard follows links contained within emails to download receipt PDFs. This function is operative as long as the PDFs are not concealed behind a login requirement. Most common providers, like Stripe, are already compatible with this feature, and we’re constantly adding support for more as they come up.
Found a link we missed? Let us know!

  4. Subscription-specific distribution: For services that don’t send separate invoice emails, Cardboard distributes the responsibility of collecting receipts. Instead of burdening just the accountant (or the people they have to chase), we involve the owners of the subscriptions' missing receipts. These individuals are often best positioned to access the necessary service provider accounts and retrieve the receipts.

Advanced email processing

Once a receipt arrives by email, our system springs into action. Using AI, we match each receipt with the correct transaction. This behind-the-scenes magic ensures that every penny is accounted for without any manual hassle.

Streamlining your accounting process

By centralizing receipt collection through Cardboard, you can simplify your monthly accounting workflow. Instead of dealing directly with your accounting system, use Cardboard to gather all software subscription payments and receipts. Then, when you're ready, import everything into your accounting system at once. This approach not only saves time but also reduces the chances of missing important transactions and receipts.
